Overfed and Undercaffeinated in Madrid, Spain: Pass the Jamón

Oops, Madrid it Again! 48 Hours, 90 degree heat, a lot of jamón.

One of my many discount airline flights propelled me into the heat of a Madrid summer. Accommodations? An quirky Airbnb with transparent tiled bathroom walls shared with the kitchen, folding Marilyn Monroe paintings as doors, and bamboo growing through the ceiling. I swear it was probably used as a set for a particular film genre…

THINGS TO SEE/FOODS TO CONSUME

The Royal Palace of Madrid: not too far from the shopping district. A nice place to meander around the grounds.

Museo Nacional del Prado: Free admission Monday-Saturday from 6-8pm and Sunday 5-7pm. When you’re not admiring Las Meninas from high school Spanish class, browse through the thousands of portraits of men in powdered wigs because why not! You are an expert in classic art!

El Mercado de San Miguel is the real star of the area. This glass marketplace has a variety of tapas and pastries, including a dope Waygu steak sandwich. You could wander for hours, picking and choosing bites of seafood, jamón, and churros con chocolate. This should probably be your number one priority in Madrid.

But where can I party!

Joy is one of the only clubs in Madrid open on a Sunday. People can arrive around midnight, but the party doesn’t really start until 2AM. The venue is an old theater converted into a nightclub, so there are several floors. We received two free drinks with the entry fee!

Teatro Kapital has SEVEN different themed floors depending on your taste in music and your preferred level of partying (the fourth floor is even called the Kissing Room oo la la!) With photographers running around, you’re sure to feel like a VIP even if you can’t afford a table.

Ok, that’s all I could do in 48 hours. Let me know what else you recommend!
